01What you'll need
Ingredients
9 items · 4 servings
- 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu
- 1 lb string beans, trimmed
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish
02How to make it
Step-by-step
Press the Tofu
Drain the tofu and wrap it in a clean kitchen towel. Place a heavy object on top to press out excess moisture for about 10 minutes.
Prepare the String Beans
While the tofu is pressing, trim the ends of the string beans and cut them into two-inch pieces.
Cube the Tofu
Unwrap the tofu and cut it into one-inch cubes.
Sauté the Tofu
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until golden on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
Stir Fry the Beans
In the same pan, add the remaining oil and garlic. Stir for 30 seconds, then add the string beans. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp.
Combine and Season
Return the tofu to the pan. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Stir everything together until well coated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve
Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve hot.

What if I can't find oyster sauce?
You can substitute with hoisin sauce or an additional tablespoon of soy sauce for a slightly different flavor.
How do I prevent the tofu from sticking to the pan?
Make sure your pan is hot and use enough oil to prevent sticking. Non-stick pans can also help.
